What affects an RTV's price

Hours on a slow-revving diesel

Big numbers are normal. These slow-revving diesels are built for long lives. Just tell us the reading.

Hydrostatic transmission (HST) health

The big one on an RTV. We listen for whine and creep in neutral, then try it on a warm hill.

Factory cab

A factory cab adds real value if the heater and air con both work. Cracked glass or a dead blower is priced in.

Bed lift and floor

The bed should lift and hold whether it's hydraulic or manual. Rot in the floor gets checked too.

Hydraulic oil and filter changes

Regular hydraulic oil and filter changes keep the HST healthy, so a record helps. Stamped books are fine. So is a pile of receipts.

Why the HST matters most

If you want to sell a Kubota RTV, expect the first question to be about the transmission. Kubota doesn't use a CVT belt. It uses a hydrostatic drive it calls VHT, which holds the machine back hard on a descent and gives fine control with a load on. Look after the oil and filters and it lasts well. Years of hard work on steep ground will still wear it.

A tired HST gets louder as speed rises. It may creep when it should sit still, and once it's warm it can lose push on a hill. Tell us honestly and the repair goes into our price. It won't stop the sale.

Mostly diesel, sometimes with a cab

Most RTVs are diesel, built for all-day work at walking pace and top speeds of about 25mph. The petrol exceptions are the RTV500 and its successor, the RTV520. Both are smaller and lighter.

Most farm RTVs never wore a number plate. That's fine, since the job of a V5C can be done by a dealer invoice or any other proof of purchase. Your ID and the serial number get checked against that paperwork before we pay.

What's a Kubota RTV worth?

At the top: a late RTV-X1100C with a sealed cab and a healthy HST, ideally with a service record. Open RTV-X900s come next. Older RTV900s and the petrol RTV500 sit below them. A dealer part-exchange figure only counts if you're buying new, whereas ours is paid by bank transfer whether or not you're buying anything.

Collecting an RTV from the farm

Collection from the grain store or the yard is free, and we pay before we load. An RTV that won't start, or won't drive because the HST has gone, still comes home on our trailer: here's how we buy a machine that doesn't run. When you're ready, request your RTV offer.

We buy every John Deere Gator, including the diesel Gator XUV 865M, plus the Kawasaki Mule, the Can-Am Traxter and the rest of the UTV market.

RTV: our offer or a dealer trade-in?

Sell to Off Road Buyers
  • A worn HST is simply priced in
  • Cab and air con valued on the day
  • Collected running or not
  • Paid before it's on the trailer
Trade in or advertise
  • Trade-in figures depend on buying new
  • Private buyers want a warm hill test
  • A creeping HST puts off farm buyers
  • A heavy diesel needs a buyer with a trailer

Selling a Kubota RTV: your questions

Do you buy Kubota RTVs?

We do, from the petrol RTV500 up to the cabbed RTV-X models.

Is the factory cab worth more?

Usually. It counts for most when the heater and air con work.

My RTV's HST whines or creeps. Will you still buy it?

We will. Describe the noise or the creep and we'll allow for the repair.

How many hours is too many on an RTV?

There isn't one. On a slow-revving diesel, hours simply feed into the price.

Can a farm business sell an RTV to you?

That's fine. Along with the normal ID and proof of ownership, show us you hold the business's authority to sell it.
