Selling a quad bike in the Weald: TN12 to TN30

Five postcode districts cover it. TN17 is the biggest, with Cranbrook at its centre and villages like Sissinghurst and Benenden round it. Hawkhurst is TN18. Tenterden is TN30. Headcorn and Biddenden share TN27 with Smarden. Staplehurst and Marden are TN12.

Vineyard Gators from Tenterden to Staplehurst

Vines and fruit trees are everywhere here. Chapel Down is just outside Tenterden and Hush Heath is near Staplehurst, with Biddenden's vineyard in between. What works the rows is usually a narrow UTV or a John Deere Gator with high hours on it and tyres worn down on the headlands, where every turn happens. Bigger estates run cabbed machines, and we'll price a Gator XUV 835M with a half or full cab as readily as a basic two-seater.

Sheep and horses round Benenden and Rolvenden

Small livestock farms round Benenden still check sheep and fences on a farm quad. Horse yards run UTVs for muck and hay. Estates use them on shoot days. A diesel Kubota RTV from a Weald estate is as welcome as a Gator. So is an e-dirt bike from a Weald garage.

Most Sur-Ron, Talaria, Stark Varg and E Ride Pro models are not road legal. They're for private land with the landowner's permission, and tracks. We never suggest riding a non-road-legal bike on public roads.

High Weald lanes at Cranbrook and Hawkhurst, clay at Headcorn

Cranbrook and Hawkhurst sit on ridges cut by steep little valleys, much of it wooded. Bedgebury's forest and pinetum are just west of Hawkhurst, and Sissinghurst Castle Garden is up the road from Cranbrook. The lanes in between are narrow and often sunken, so tell us how wide yours is. Over the county line from Hawkhurst, our Sussex collections carry on.

Headcorn clay and the Isle of Oxney

Down round Headcorn the land flattens onto heavy clay. There are fruit farms and paddocks here, and Headcorn Aerodrome is just south of the village. In winter that clay turns to glue. So muddy wheel bearings and worn brakes are normal. At Wittersham on the Isle of Oxney the Weald starts to meet the Marsh, and steam trains on the Kent and East Sussex Railway still run out of Tenterden Town.

Down the A229 to Staplehurst and Hawkhurst

The A229 comes down from Maidstone through Staplehurst to Hawkhurst. From Goudhurst the A262 crosses through Sissinghurst to Biddenden, where the A274 from Headcorn meets it. Tenterden and Rolvenden are on the A28 to Ashford. East out of Hawkhurst it's the A268.
